It is not possible to open and reuse the housing.
There a two options for a new housing:
- ask Estimote customer service for a spare part.
- 3D-print the housing yourself. That's what I did.
Both solutions are NOT water resistant (the original "rock" beacon is)!
Step 1: remove the housing.
Take a sharp knife and cut the bottom part from the housing.
It looks like this:
Step 3: 3D-print a housing.
I found this one on Thingiverse. Multiply the sizes with factor 4,85 (or 485%).
I used a Prusa I3 MK2 3D-printer with PLA.
This is the result:
The base part.
The lid and the beacon in the base part. Replace the battery with a new one. CR2450, 3 volt.
Ready!
If you glue it with aceton or acrlylic glue, it will be waterproof.
